Who is the "Data Protection Officer (DPO)"?

The role, characteristics and tasks of the Data Protection Officer are provided for and governed by Articles 37, 38 and 39 of the European Regulation No. 679/2016, and are further clarified by the Guidelines on Data Protection Officers adopted on 13 December 2016 by the Article 29 Working Party on the protection of personal data as well as by several recent FAQ of the Data Protection Authority.

The Data Protection Officer (DPO) has a general function of overseeing that the Authority conducts itself in compliance with the legislation on the protection of personal data.

The DPO also acts as a point of contact and reference for the public with regard to issues and questions relating to the Authority's processing of their personal data and respect for their rights in this regard.
